Historical Tours in Hong Kong and Macao

Macao - one-day tour

This is a possible one-day itinerary.  We would be able to see a number of sites at a leisurely pace and be back in Hong Kong at a reasonable hour.

We first assemble at Hong Kong-Macao Ferry Terminal at Shun Tak Centre at 07:30 to catch the 08:00 jetfoil.  Arriving in Macao at 09:00, we take a public bus into the town centre, and start the walking tour programme by 09:30.

We walk until 13:00, then take an hour’s break for lunch, following which the tour continues until 16:30 hours. We return to the ferry pier by 18:00 to catch the 18:30 ferry, which will have us back in Central at about 19:30.

Places to visit will include Leal Senado and square, Sao Domingos Church, the Fortress at Monte, Sao Paulo ruins, the Casa Garden, the former headquarters of the British East India Company in Macao and the fascinating old Protestant Cemetery next to it.

We will then take in the Camoens Gardens and Grotto and the Sao Lazaro area, a preservation district with many attractive old buildings.

We will then adjourn for lunch to the Clube Militar, located at the old barracks of Sao Francisco.

After lunch we walk back along the Praia Grande to the Largo do Senadao, and see the Teatro Dom Pedro, Sao Agostinho and Sao Lourenco Churches and Government House.  Along the way we will take in the Governor’s residence, Santa Sancha, the church on the hill at Penha, some attractive old houses and the view out over the Inner Harbour.
