Jason's Walks

Historical Tours in Hong Kong and Macao

Stanley

The group assembles at the playground sitting out area adjacent to Stanley bus station, and walks via Tai Tam Village and Tung Tau Wan Road to St. Stephen’s College. On arrival the group will proceed first to the library building, used as a Field Ambulance Station during the fighting and the site of a massacre by the Japanese on Christmas Morning 1941.

We then walk from St. Stephen’s College to the Stanley Military Cemetary, via the College’s private gate.  Arrangements are in place for this gate to be opened.

In the cemetary will discuss its significance, and that of Stanley Civilian Internment Camp which was located in this area.

After viewing the cemetary we will walk back up along Wong Ma Kok Road to Stanley village. We will note the old Stanley Police Station.  The group will then proceed via Stanlet Market Street and Stanley Main Street to the Tin Hau Temple, and then around the headland to the Pak Tai Temple.  Along the way to the Pak Tai Temple Jason will point out some pillboxes along the cliff.
