On this full day tour we will retrace the advance of the Japanese during the attack on Hong Kong in December 1941.
Starting at the Shing Mun Redoubt and tunnels in the hills above Tsuen Wan, we will then go by mini-bus to Devil’s Peak behind Kwun Tong to see the fortifications in the hills, and then on to Lyemun near where the Japanese landed on Hong Kong island.
There we will visit an abandoned gun battery at Sai Wan hill.
From Lyemun we will go to Wong Nai Chung Gap, once the scene of very fierce fighting, and walk along the water catchment to some abandoned pill-boxes.
Then we will go out to Stanley to visit St. Stephen’s College, site of a Field Ambulance Hospital where doctors, nurses and wounded patients were massacred on Christmas morning 1941.

Nearby is the Stanley Cemetery, once part of the internment camp for civilans, where we will learn something of this terrible time in Hong Kong’s past, and visit a number of interesting graves from this
period.
After Stanley we will continue to the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery at Sai Wan in the late afternoon.
This is a full-day excursion which will require some walking. While not TOO strenuous, sensible footwear, a water bottle, packed lunch and a torch (flashlight) will be essential.
